Here's a couple random Beatles lists of my picks...
TOP 10 Songs:
1. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - THE BEATLES
Just their best song, I think. I really can't get too much deeper than that - this is as good as it gets when it comes to The Beatles. You just know it sometimes.
2. "Taxman" - REVOLVER
Rocky and even revolting, it effectively kicks off one of the most important albums of all time.
3. "Let it Be" - LET IT BE
It's Paul and his piano, and it's as sweet as The Beatles get, right here.
4. "Nowhere Man" - RUBBER SOUL
One reason why I think Rubber Soul is the group's best album is because of songs such as "Nowhere Man." Things were becoming different.
5. "A Day in the Life" - SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND
As daring as it is, it's a great rock and roll song. I still hear the perfectly out-of-tune orchestra in my sleep at times. It's haunting as it takes off every step of the way.
6. "Hey Jude" (single)
A simple song from the band's more complicated era. It was considered too lengthy to be a hit, but it's captivating. Naaaa, na na na naaaa .....
7. "In My Life" - RUBBER SOUL
This would be sappy if the lyrics weren't so well-constructed. The Beatles showed here that if they could be sharp and sad, things were changing.
8. "Blackbird" - THE BEATLES
Bare-bones guitar and soul here. A song impossible not to hum for days.
9. "The Long and Winding Road" - LET IT BE
The "naked" version of this song is better, but "The Long and Winding Road" is so honest that hardly a Beatles fan can dislike it."
10. "Across the Universe" - LET IT BE
It's so eerie. This is as eerie as non-"White Album" as the group gets. The song asserts itself, though, and you love it for doing so.
TOP 5 Albums:
1) Rubber Soul
2) Revolver
3) Abbey Road
4) Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
5) The Beatles
And, what the heck, here's a scene from "I am Sam," which made me weep like an infant.
